In a room full of A-list celebrities and other high-profile people, it was science and math that took center stage at the 10th Annual Breakthrough Prize ceremony at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles on Saturday night.
The Breakthrough Prize, which is 'renowned as the Oscars of Science', celebrates the research achievements of the world's top scientists, awarding more than $15 million in prizes annually, according to the non-profit's website.
Academy Award-winner Robert Downey Jr. was among the stars to lend their support, alongside his wife Susan Downey, in recognizing the world's top figures working in the fundamental sciences.
The Oppenheimer star served as one of the celebrity presenters that included the likes of Kim Kardashian, Regina King, Brie Larson and Rob Lowe, among others.
Fresh off stepping down as host of his very own late night talk show, James Corden played the role of host of the festivities.

Downey Jr., 59, showed off his sense of style on the red carpet in a gray-patterned three-piece suit that was matched with a black dress shirt and shiny leather shoes.
Exuding a more relaxed feel, the actor left both his vest and blazer unbuttoned, all while opting to go without a tie.
Susan Downey, 50, showed off her petite figure in a classy black sleeveless dress that hugged her curves.
Together for more than 20 years, Downey Jr. and his wife are a true Hollywood power couple, having formed their own Warner Bros.-based production company named team Downey in 2010.
The Breakthrough Prizes were founded in 2012 by Sergey Brin (co-founder of Facebook), Priscilla Chan (co-founder of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative), Mark Zuckerberg (founder of Facebook), Julia and Yuri Milner (technology investor and science philanthropist), and Anne Wojcicki (co-founder of 23andMe).
The awards ceremony celebrates scientific achievement and brings together luminaries of science and mathematics with leading figures from the worlds of entertainment, technology, sports and business.
Among the $15 million doled out annually, there were Breakthrough Prizes of $3 million presented in the fields of Life Sciences, Fundamental Physics, and Mathematics.
Additionally, each year New Horizons Prizes in Physics and Mathematics ($100,000) are awarded to outstanding early-career researchers, as well as the Maryam Mirzakhani New Frontiers Prize ($50,000) that recognizes women mathematicians who have recently completed PhDs and produced important results.
